New York Mets 1969 Home lightweight wool flannel blend jersey # 30

In 1969, the National League expanded into Canada with the formation of the Montreal Expos. Seven years earlier, the New York Mets joined the National League as one of their first expansion teams. Going into the 1969 season the New York Mets had yet to post a winning record. Nolan Ryan, a young pitcher from the Lone Star State, began his second full season with the Mets. Ryan, who is known for his strikeouts and no hitters, started 10 games for the Mets compiling a 6-3 record. Not only did the Mets have a winning season, but for the first time in the history of their franchise they won 100 games, defeating the Western Division Champion Atlanta Braves for the National League pennant. The Mets appeared to be heavily overmatched by the Baltimore Orioles going into the 1969 World Series. In just five games the Orioles succumbed to the Mets, who ended their first winning season with a World Series title.
