Description
Despite being the victims of a Nolan Ryan no-hitter on June 11, 1990, the Oakland Athletics bashed their way to 103 wins and a third consecutive American League pennant. The 1990 World Series was overshadowed by the escalation of military involvement in Iraq. Social issues surrounding the World Series was not a foreign topic for the Athletics as they dealt with the effects of a devastating earthquake which shocked the bay area the year before. With a powerful pitching rotation and a dangerous line-up the Athletics looked to repeat as World Champions. However, they were outplayed by a gritty Cincinnati Reds team who surprisingly swept the series.
