The American Football League was established in 1960 as a rival to the well established NFL. In 1963, the AFL champion Dallas Texans relocated to Kansas City and became the Chiefs. In 1994, the NFL marked its 75th year of existence while the AFL celebrated its 35th. The Kansas City Chiefs helped celebrate the history of both the NFL and AFL by wearing embroidered tackle twill patches commemorating these milestones. Joe Montana, who arrived in Kansas City in 1993, entering the final chapter of his Hall of Fame career. Montana helped lead the Chiefs to a wildcard birth as he put up Pro Bowl numbers throughout the season.
