In 1963, the Los Angeles Dodgers won the National League Pennant by holding a six game lead over Stan Musial, who was in his final season, and the St. Louis Cardinals. The Dodgers were led by a southpaw pitcher from the Brooklyn borough of New York. He led the National League in strikeouts (306) and wins (25), winning the first of three consecutive Cy Young Awards. On May 11, 1963, he pitched his second career no-hitter against the San Francisco Giants. The Dodgers would face the New York Yankees, their arch nemesis, in the World Series, sweeping by winning the first four games.
