The Boston Celtics began to hoist their championship banners in 1957, when they defeated the St. Louis Hawks for their first NBA title. The Celtics were led that year by a young Bill Russell. After leading the USA to gold in the 1956 Olympics, Russell joined the Celtics and helped revolutionize the Celtics offensive approach by teaming up with Bob Cousy for the fast break. Prior to the start of the 1962-1963 season, Bob Cousy, the heart and soul of the Celtics franchise, announced that he would retire following the season. In 1963, the Celtics won their fifth consecutive NBA title as dominate Bill Russell won his third straight MVP Award. John Havlicek, who was a rookie during the 1962-1963 season, helped fill the void in the Celtics franchise that was left by Cousy. Havlicek developed into one of the game
