The 1996-1997 season marked the 50th Anniversary of the NBA. The Philadelphia 76ers wore an anniversary jersey that honored the storied history of their franchise, which arrived in Philadelphia by way of the Syracuse Nationals in the summer of 1963. Throughout the season the Sixers were led by Allen Iverson, their number one draft pick from Georgetown University. Iverson made an immediate impact on the Sixers offensive game, setting a rookie record by tallying 40 points in five consecutive games. Iverson also became the first Sixer to win Rookie of the Year honors and remains one of the game’s top performers.
