Cincinnati Reds 1969 Road light weight wool flannel blend jersey # 05
In 1869, the Cincinnati Red Stockings formed as the first professional baseball team. In their first regular season match, the Red Stockings defeated the Cincinnati Great Westerns 45-9. The Red Stockings completed the 1869 season with a National Association record of 57-0. One hundred years later, baseball commemorated its first professional team by having all current teams wear an anniversary patch on their jerseys. The Miracle Mets, who expanded into the league in 1962, defeated the heavily favored Baltimore Orioles in the 1969 World Series. In the first year that the leagues were divided into divisions, the Reds finished four games out of first in the West.
1969 was a very good year for Johnny Bench, who played on his second of 13 All Star Teams, and would go on to win MVP for the 1970 season.
