On opening day of the 1959 season, White Sox second baseman Nellie Fox collected five hits in seven at bats. Fox’s last hit was a game winning two run homerun to beat the Detroit Tigers. The Go Go Sox were led by Nellie Fox, the American League MVP, as they captured their first American League Pennant since 1919. The White Sox would face the Los Angeles Dodgers in the first West Coast World Series. The Dodgers, who played their home games at the Los Angeles Coliseum, won the World Series in six games.
