Chicago Cubs 1908 Home lightweight wool flannel blend jersey # 00
In 1908, while riding a train through the Manhattan borough of New York, Jack Norworth saw a sign advertising a game at the Polo Grounds. Norworth quickly became inspired, writing down the lyrics to "Take Me Out to the Ball Game," a song which would become a classic and would be played during the seventh inning stretch of each ball game. The Chicago Cubs were coming off of their first World Series title, defeating the Tigers in the 1907 World Series. The Tigers were a well-organized team, and in 1908 they turned a triple play on two consecutive days. The Cubs famous double play trio helped lead them to their third National League Pennant, meeting and beating the American League Champion Detroit Tigers for the second straight year. The Cubs have yet to win another World Series title and have not held the National League Pennant since the final year of World War II, 1945.
